*Position Summary*
RPG Programmers at SGA primarily develop, maintain, and test programming applications on an IBM iSeries (AS400) to established specifications using the RPG (Report Program Generator) programming language.
Programmers develop new applications and enhance existing applications to reflect the current business needs of the users, as well as analyze and resolve problems associated with applications.
Programmers may also be assigned duties building vendor relationships and general helpdesk services.
To be successful in this position, a high level of technical competency and critical thinking is required with the ability to effectively translate user needs to technical solutions with the highest level of customer service and professionalism.
*Essential Duties & Responsibilities*
* Analyze programming applications, detect, diagnose, and correct problems
* Maintain existing AS400 applications and develop new applications to support business needs
* Complete assigned programming implementation with high quality and on schedule
* Ensure system updates and upgrades are completed as needed
* Manage data back-ups and tape rotations per protocol
* Maintain servers and networking equipment
* Set-up and manage hardware and software required for business operations
* Proactively monitor the performance of assigned application software and investigate user-initiated problems to improve operating efficiency and effectiveness of assigned applications
* Maintain relationships and coordinate activities with vendors and technical service providers
* Stay current and updated regarding emerging technologies and industry best practices
* Cross-train and effectively fill-in to ensure smooth operation of the IT department and technical support of the business.

*Education & Experience*
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent education and work experience
* Demonstrated proficiency and depth of knowledge of AS400, with very strong experience in RPG/LE/Free-format, SQLRPGLE, and CL programming
* Strong data analysis skills, particularly with iSeries DB2 and physical files
* Expertise with PC tools including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* General experience in Networking, Windows, and Linux is preferred.
