Job Summary
The Engineering CAD Automation Specialist is a subject matter expert with modelling and CAD software responsible for creating and supporting automation and other utilities specific to Engineering software and generally related to CAD modelling and drawing output.
Analyzes user needs and performs application studies and evaluations, designs systems and procedures, and conducts work simplification and measurement studies with the aim of optimizing operational efficiency.
Essential Functions

Codes, tests, debugs, and documents in various programming systems.
Supports engineering teams using modelling and CAD software to produce parametric models and related drawings, bills of material and other data used to procure, fabricate, and construct industrial structures.
Reviews, analyzes, and modifies Visual Basic / .
NET / VBA Macro / VB Script, HTML code, as required, and uses these languages for windows forms applications.
Assists in the capture, analysis, and presentation of internal data, as required.
Consults with IT and Engineering personnel to understand project status, proposals, and technical issues such as software system design and maintenance.
Researches products and evaluates interface between hardware and software, and develops specifications and performance requirements to resolve issues.
Prepares reports and correspondence concerning project specifications, activities, and status.
Determines project scope and flowcharts logical steps prior to coding.
Develops SQL statements and uses basic report formatting tools such as Excel to format query output.
Mines data and presents information through reports, the web, and other interfaces, as required.
Delivers quality business systems and enhancements on-time.
Establishes effective working relationships within the department and organization and communicates with users to understand what is needed.
Troubleshoots coding problems, explains issues to IT staff and vendors, and tests systems changes.
Corrects errors to adapt Engineering software to new hardware or to upgrade interfaces and improve performance.
Supports / tests upgrades and patches for compatibility.
Produces user documentation for created programs and utilities and prepares operations and procedure manuals to assist application development team.
Performs necessary investigation, analysis, and evaluation to determine project feasibility.
Provides high level support of software and business applications to multiple offices.
Provides initial response to help desk tickets and supports software and business applications for end users.
Performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Information Technology or equivalent job-related experience/knowledge preferred; if no degree, 3+ years of experience in CAD related development.
3+ years of related tank, vessel or fabrication CAD experience preferred.
Exposure to 3-D parametric modelling with Autodesk Inventor experience preferred but other similar experience (i.
e.
Solid Works for example) will be considered.
Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques.
Experience in software and hardware support.
Experience with SharePoint integration and development.
Expertise with databases, spreadsheet programs and report writers; expertise in use of the Engineering department's primary information systems.
Experience in the use of back-office processes and languages to automate CAD modelling and drawing development is preferred including but not limited to VB, VBA, SQL Server, .
NET, VB Script, and HTML.
Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD APIs required; experience with other engineering-based applications is a plus.
Knowledge of Internet search techniques and ability to obtain information from the Internet.
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with customer service orientation needed to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities.
