Position Title Assistant Director for Sports Medicine
Job Description
The Assistant Director for Sports Medicine coordinates the medical care of student-athletes in assigned sports, including the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses.
The Assistant Director for Sports Medicine will assist in the daily operation of the athletic training room and act as a preceptor in the athletic training program.
The Assistant Director for Sports Medicine reports directly to the Assistant Athletics Director for Student Health & Performance/Director of Sports Medicine.
Required Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field and minimum of one year of experience in athletic training; eligible for Oklahoma Athletic Training License and possess BOC Certification as an athletic trainer; excellent oral, written, and presentation skills, strong work ethic and self-starter, organizational skills and great attention to detail; willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
Provide athletic training coverage of assigned sports
Coordinate the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses of student-athletes
Assist in the clinical instruction of the athletic training students
Maintain proper injury records, including daily treatments and rehab, initial and follow up notes, and special reports
Establish a line of communication with athletes, parents, physicians, and coaches
Submit an injury report to the Head Coach of the assigned sports on a regular basis
Contribute positively to the goals and mission of the Athletic Training Department through providing quality service to the student-athlete and continually seeking out educational opportunities for professional growth
Assist in the inventory process and purchasing of medical supplies, equipment and pharmaceuticals
Assist in the planning of the medical coverage for TU sport camps
Assist in the coordination and management of the Disordered Eating Plan
Assist in the Athletic Insurance process
Assist in the selection and ordering of clothing for staff and students
Assist in referrals to the Director of Sports Nutrition
Assist in the selection and scheduling of work study students
Assist in the maintenance of all equipment in the athletic training room, including the scheduling of safety checks for modalities
Assist in the planning for yearly physicals for all student athletes
Teach CPR/AED certification class for athletic department personnel
Teach CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer for the athletic training staff and students
Serve on the selection committee for graduate assistant athletic trainers and athletic training students
Assist in the supervision of the graduate assistant athletic trainers and the athletic training students
Contribute to the goals and mission of The University of Tulsa through services and participation in campus sponsored events and training programs
Follow the NATA Code of Ethics
Uphold NCAA, American Athletic Conference and university rules and guidelines
Maintain BOC Certification as an Athletic Trainer
Maintain Oklahoma Athletic Training License
Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Athletics for Student Health & Performance
